Did you know that one of greatest popular singer-songwriters of the 20th Century - Neil Diamond attended New York University with a fencing scholarship and later became a pre-med student?
He left college during his final year to take a job as a professional songwriter in New York. At that time Neil wrote pop songs for other musicians which later evolved into writing songs for himself. That launched a tremendous solo recording career that spanned more than five decades.
Neil went on to have hit after hit in the late 60s and 70s. He even landed the soundtrack recording contract for the film Jonathan Livingston Seagull in 1973 which earned him a Grammy Award. He sold more than 100 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling musicians of all time. He has had ten No. 1 singles on the Hot 100 and Adult Contemporary charts.
